An Announcement from City Climb
To Our City Climb Community,
We are reaching out to you all with some big news about our future. As some of you have already heard, the building City Climb currently resides in is in the process of being purchased for redevelopment starting November 2026. Unfortunately, with this redevelopment, City Climb will not be able to stay in the building. While we never intended to leave our cozy space, we're embracing the opportunity to start an exciting new chapter for our community.
This is not the end of City Climb. We’re in the early stages of planning our relocation to a new space. While we can’t share too much about that space yet, we will be remaining a part of the New Haven community that we love so much. Additionally, after strong consideration, we’ve decided to take steps that will allow ourselves to fully commit to the community and programs that are at the heart of our gym. When City Climb reopens in our new location, we will be operating as a not-for-profit entity.
We’re incredibly excited about this change. A new facility will allow us to provide all of our members with the best climbing experience possible, and a new nonprofit designation will let us expand our community-focused programming, opening more opportunities for us to engage with our neighbors, and make climbing accessible to anyone who wants to be a part of the sport.
With all that said, we need your help. Given the sudden and unanticipated nature of this move, we do not currently have the financial resources necessary to bring you all a brand new gym. We also do not have the option of bringing our current climbing structures with us to a new location, requiring a complete, from scratch buildout. Members we’ve had a chance to talk with about this already have asked how they can help, and so we will be launching a crowdfunding campaign to accept contributions – with some fun future perks!
We have an initial goal of $500k that we are hoping to raise with the help of our community. For the time being, we will be tracking pledges until our new, non-profit status is approved. We’re also stoked to announce that, to kick us off, we have an anonymous donor who will be matching pledges up to $100,000 through the end of July!
This gym and the people in it mean so much to us. We want nothing more than to be able to continue to provide a space for our community that is more than just a climbing gym to those who know it best. We'll be sending another email in the coming weeks with fundraising information. Our ask: once it's live, please share it far and wide. If you have the means to donate, every dollar counts (double!). If you don't, but you know someone who may be interested in helping (by donating, investing, sponsoring, etc) please send those leads to erin@cityclimbgym.com. You can also use that email to ask Erin any questions you may have.
We will be continuing normal operations at the gym for now, and will continue to share updates via email and social media as things develop.
